As pointed out at https://www.yahoo.com/news/us-oil-production-peak-2027-220000955.html , the best current estimates are that we will reach peak oil/gas in the next 7 years, after which obtaining more becomes more expensive. In comparison, peak coal is likely still decades away. Some estimates have indicated we will reach peak coal in the early 2050s. If these estimates are […]
Michigan Local Governments Need to Seek Ways to Attain More Power Relative to State Government Given the Bad Policy Direction and Abuse of Power by the State Government / Charter County Option Should be One Tool on the Table for ConsiderationMichigan Local Governments Need to Seek Ways to Attain More Power Relative to State Government Given the Bad Policy Direction and Abuse of Power by the State Government / Charter County Option Should be One Tool on the Table for Consideration
One of the most egregious abuses of State power is that of the MPSC over local zoning as part of its Net Zero agenda. The Michigan charter county option is a viable tool for local government to fight back with more local control. This option, along with others, should be seriously considered, to enhance local […]
Draft Campbell Resolutions for Township Board ConsiderationDraft Campbell Resolutions for Township Board Consideration
If Consumers Energy feels that the township and county boards are all bark and no bite in our Campbell resolutions, then they are more likely not to accede to the requests. We need to bark, but if Consumers Energy fails to heed the sound, then we need to pursue the possibility of alternative action. Proposed […]

We need local governments in Ottawa County to explore introducing competition into this picture which really only they can do.[9] [1] https://zeelandbpw.com/may-3-2022-election/ [2] https://www.michigancapitolconfidential.com/news/consumers-energy-requests-another-rate-hike-one-week-after-approval-of-154-million-increase [3] https://www.michigancapitolconfidential.com/news/consumers-energy-requests-another-rate-hike-one-week-after-approval-of-154-million-increase [4] https://www.mlive.com/environment/2025/06/consumers-energy-asks-to-raise-electric-rates-436m-the-most-in-decades.html?outputType=amp [5] https://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/2025/05/28/trump-consumers-energy-coal-campbell-power-plant-mpsc/83896946007/?link_source=ta_first_comment&taid=6837314aa9919b00017420cc [6] https://www.freep.com/story/news/politics/2023/11/21/dte-consumers-mpsc-regulation/71241464007/ [7] https://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/2025/05/28/trump-consumers-energy-coal-campbell-power-plant-mpsc/83896946007/?link_source=ta_first_comment&taid=6837314aa9919b00017420cc [8] https://www.fraserinstitute.org/commentary/solar-and-wind-power-make-electricity-more-expensive-thats-a-fact and https://nypost.com/2025/05/07/opinion/cheap-solar-and-wind-is-a-lie-green-countries-pay-more/ [9] https://savethecampbell.com/resolution-request-of-township-and-county-boards-to-prevent-a-consumers-energy-rate-hike-by-offsetting-campbell-costs-with-net-zero-expenditure-reductions/
The Campbell is Environmentally Clean As Well As Important For Our Economic SecurityThe Campbell is Environmentally Clean As Well As Important For Our Economic Security
At least $1 billion was expended by Consumers Energy customers to make the Campbell one of the cleanest coal plants in the nation, yet Consumers Energy executives want to sock it to these customers and close the plant in 2025. The effect of the anti-polluting equipment has been significant, such as reflected in the table […]
Resolution Request of Township and County Boards to Prevent a Consumers Energy Rate Hike By Offsetting Campbell Costs With Net Zero Expenditure ReductionsResolution Request of Township and County Boards to Prevent a Consumers Energy Rate Hike By Offsetting Campbell Costs With Net Zero Expenditure Reductions
Subject: Resolution Request of Township Boards and County Board of Ottawa County Dear Board Members: Consumers Energy is indicating it will raise customer rates to keep the Campbell open in accordance with the Trump Administration executive order, when it should instead be offsetting those costs with reductions in its Net Zero agenda expenditures so that […]
By the authority vested in it by the Michigan Constitution, the Ottawa County Board should pass a resolution calling on Consumers Energy not to seek cost recovery from customers of costs to keep Campbell open, but instead to reduce its significant expenditures on executing its “aggressive green energy plans”. If it refuses, like it likely will, then the Ottawa County Board should help townships pursue local control of the Campbell and electric in Ottawa County.By the authority vested in it by the Michigan Constitution, the Ottawa County Board should pass a resolution calling on Consumers Energy not to seek cost recovery from customers of costs to keep Campbell open, but instead to reduce its significant expenditures on executing its “aggressive green energy plans”. If it refuses, like it likely will, then the Ottawa County Board should help townships pursue local control of the Campbell and electric in Ottawa County.
It should be noted that some parts of Ottawa County already successfully have local control of electric. This may be an especially opportune time, because there may be an interested data center willing to help in the financing of Campbell acquisition.
By its own admission, Consumers Energy is spending a fortune of customers’ money so it can brag about having the “most aggressive clean energy plans in the nation”, even though there are many warning signs that it does not provide reliable baseloadBy its own admission, Consumers Energy is spending a fortune of customers’ money so it can brag about having the “most aggressive clean energy plans in the nation”, even though there are many warning signs that it does not provide reliable baseload

Meanwhile, it plans to sock customers with many costs to keep Campbell open but largely unused, even though the Campbell does provide reliable baseload, and does not have all of the […]
