• We should have local control of our electric grid, so that we maintain reliable electricity, and so that our farmlands are protected from industrial development that has not received local approval.
  • We need data centers to compete with China in the modern economy, but we need them co-located to reliable generating plants like the Campbell so that they do not resort to heavily polluting diesel generators.
  • We also need local control of data centers so that local interests come first in the way they are built and operate, and that none are built in the county unless they meet our local conditions and obtain our local approval.
  • A data center co-located next to the Campbell should only be allowed if it actually subsidizes and reduces local residential electric rates.
  • The proposal we are currently discussing would convert the oldest unit of the Campbell to gas, and investigate using the Campbell wastewater in a co-located data center instead of injection underground.
  • The Federal Government has currently existing programs in place to facilitate conversion to a locally controlled electric cooperative.
  • Seven township boards are already participating on the Exploratory Committee, along with many local elected leaders. They include:  Georgetown, Jamestown, Zeeland Township, Blendon, Polkton, Wright, and Chester.
  • Participation involves no legal liability or any obligation; it is simply to obtain information from the Trump Administration and other parties so that we can make a more informed decision.
  • Three cities in Ottawa County already have successful, locally controlled electric utilities with lower residential electricity costs.
