The Utilities Committee of Georgetown Township prepared and unanimously approved the excellent resolution below for the entire Georgetown Township Board to vote on 11/25/2024. This resolution is a model for all the other township boards, as well as county board, to enact:
Resolution to Support the Continued Operation of The Campbell Coal Plant Resolution No. 24-1014 Date: November 25, 2024
WHEREAS, The Campbell Coal Plant has been a vital part of our community’s energy infrastructure for years, providing reliable power and supporting local jobs; and
WHEREAS, the plant contributes significantly to the local economy, employing workers directly and supporting additional jobs in related industries; and
WHEREAS, The Campbell Coal Plant has implemented various measures to reduce emissions and enhance efficiency, demonstrating a commitment to environmental responsibility; and
WHEREAS, the plant plays a crucial role in maintaining energy stability and affordability for residents and businesses in the West Michigan Region and
WHEREAS, transitioning away from coal without a clear, viable alternative could jeopardize energy reliability and increase costs for consumers; and
WHEREAS, a balanced energy portfolio is essential to meet both current and future energy demands while supporting economic growth; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Georgetown Charter Township Board hereby expresses its support for the continued operation of The Campbell Coal Plant as part of our energy strategy; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Georgetown Charter Township Board will engage with stakeholders to promote a comprehensive energy plan that includes coal as a component of a diverse and sustainable energy future.

Ottawa County needs to send a clear message to Consumers Energy, the Michigan Public Service Commission, and other parties, like Georgetown and Jamestown Townships are in process of doing.
