The 4 town boards which have now called for delay in the closure and its continued operation are: Jamestown, Blendon, Zeeland Township, and Polkton. We have good reason to believe additional town boards will be joining this growing list. It is important too that the Ottawa County Board expeditiously does the same. It is the first important step in a process that by God’s grace will stop Consumers Energy’s planned 2025 closure and demolition of the Campbell.

Here was the communication we received from the Polkton Township board:

“thank you for your information and efforts-FYI, at last night’s Polkton Charter Township monthly meeting, we took action on two resolutions:

    1) Support to the continued operation of The Campbell Coal Plant

    2) Support local control and claim of appeal against Michigan Public Service Commission Order

Dave Biller,

Trustee, Polkton Charter Township”

The Consumers Energy monopoly is regulated by the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC), which have been working together to implement a highly risky energy policy of rapid closure of fossil fuel plants that our regional electric grid operator MISO has warned about. Coupled with closure of fossil fuel plants has been MPSC empowerment to overrule local government authority in siting solar panel and wind turbine fields. A coalition of 79 townships and counties has sued the Michigan Public Service Commission in the state Court of Appeals, seeking to stop it from overriding local control of large-scale wind and solar energy projects. The Polkton Township board is supporting this coalition effort, as well as delay in the closure of the Campbell.
