Coal Mine Reclamation in Montana and Wyoming, Where the Campbell Gets Its CoalCoal Mine Reclamation in Montana and Wyoming, Where the Campbell Gets Its Coal
Coal mining is less environmentally challenging than oil and gas fracking.
“Yuge” News for Ottawa County’s Campbell Plant: Trump Administration Will Strongly Back Clean Coal, which Means They Both Back Coal Plus Likely Help with Costs to Ensure it is Environmentally Responsible. Please join the SaveTheCampbell.com effort before it is too late. Consumers Energy/MPSC want to close/demolish our Campbell plant in 2025. The plant is worth billions of dollars, and over $1 billion was invested in its environmental scrubbing equipment in the last decade on the premise it would remain open until at least 2040.
Here is the German experience: will Ottawa County learn from it before we demolish the Campbell? Germany turns to coal power to keep the lights on.Here is the German experience: will Ottawa County learn from it before we demolish the Campbell? Germany turns to coal power to keep the lights on.

Zeeland Township Board Last Evening Passed a Resolution to “Save The Campbell”, Joining Others That Have Already Done SoZeeland Township Board Last Evening Passed a Resolution to “Save The Campbell”, Joining Others That Have Already Done So
We are thankful that Zeeland Township is joining Jamestown Township and Blendon Township in this, and we are encouraged that other Ottawa County townships will do the same. These boards are concerned that grid operator MISO projects Consumers Energy/MPSC’s “net zero” emission plan significantly risks our electric grid. These townships join many local political leaders who […]
Tonight Blendon Township Board Unanimously Approved Resolution Calling for Delay in Closing the County’s Campbell PlantTonight Blendon Township Board Unanimously Approved Resolution Calling for Delay in Closing the County’s Campbell Plant
The Board expressed concern that grid operator MISO projects Consumers Energy/MPSC’s “net zero” emission plan significantly risks our electric grid. The Campbell is one of many fossil fuel plants being rapidly closed. The Campbell plant reliably provides electric for 1 million regional residents. We thank Blendon’s Board for joining Jamestown’s Board and a growing number […]

I am posting this NOT to argue for demolition of gas plants, but as part of my argument that it does not make sense to demolish coal plants like Campbell with […]
Dig Baby Dig — Coal That Is!Dig Baby Dig — Coal That Is!
Ottawa County needs to popularize that motto. We should lead the nation in a renaissance of an environmentally responsible use of coal, by keeping Campbell alive and showing how it can be responsibly managed. Its byproducts should be used for the battery industry. Scrubbers and other technology should be used to remove air pollutants. Money […]
Gas plant is not environmentally “cleaner” than Campbell coal plant, contrary to Consumers Energy assertions in its drive to demolish the CampbellGas plant is not environmentally “cleaner” than Campbell coal plant, contrary to Consumers Energy assertions in its drive to demolish the Campbell
Much US production of gas comes via fracking, which is not without its environmental challenges: https://environmentamerica.org/articles/fracking-is-an-environmental-disaster/ . In reality Consumers Energy has not even built a gas plant to substitute for the loss of the Campbell, because it simply purchased the Covert gas plant from another party, doing nothing for the overall national electric grid.
