In selecting Doug Burgum and Chris Wright to implement his energy policy, President Trump is following through on his pro-fossil fuel agenda. The majority of Ottawa County and Michigan voters elected President Trump, in part because they wanted this more realistic energy agenda which rejects rapid phase-out of fossil fuel use. Doug Bergum is pro-fossil fuels (gas and coal), and Chris Wright is pro-fossil fuel (gas and coal). It can be done in a way which protects the environment, while maintaining reliable and affordable electric generating capacity.
We would ask all of the town and county boards of Ottawa County to do what Georgetown and Jamestown township boards are already doing: send a clear message to the Michigan Public Service Commission and Consumers Energy that we do not want the Campbell plant closed and demolished in 2025. There are legal tools available to stop the endangerment of our electric grid should Michigan Public Service Commission and Consumers Energy not heed the message.
