“Power plant owners responded to high gas prices by burning more coal in the first half of this year…The increase for coal and decrease for gas can be largely attributed to the prices of each fuel, according to analysts. The rising cost of natural gas has made coal the more affordable option for some power plant owners.”

Solar has risen in 2025 as a holdover of the Biden push for solar accompanied by huge government subsidies which are ending with the Trump Administration.

The reality for Michigan is that the combination of coal and gas makes the most sense for our baseload electric.
