“…About $1 billion has been invested in air quality control systems at the J.H. Campbell Generating Complex, according to Consumers Energy…”

Per https://www.wzzm13.com/article/news/local/lakeshore/what-will-happen-to-the-jh-campbell-plant/69-522203712 entitled “what will happen to the JH Campbell plant” :

“Morgenstern says Consumers has already invested $1 billion to reduce emissions out of their stacks. ‘We’re removing mercury, we’re removing nitrogen oxide, sulfur dioxide, so it does not get up in the air, he said. But what does this news mean for the hundreds that depend on a paycheck from here?”

Per https://www.crainsgrandrapids.com/news/consumers-energy-reaches-settlement-with-epa/ which reads:

“Consumers Energy’s J.H. Campbell plant in West Olive is a beehive of activity during a $1 billion upgrade to emissions control equipment.”

The special anti-polluting equipment had been installed on the Campbell in order to enable it (especially Campbell Unit 3) to remain open to 2040 consistent with Federal environmental regulations. This money is being wasted, and Consumers Energy customers- not its executives and other investors- are having to foot the bill.
