The Michigan Public Service Commission is considering nuclear in Ottawa County as cited at its website: “Among highlights of the report…hypothetical new nuclear plant built in Ottawa County” . Also mentioned there is Holtec International, which is trying to rapidly restart the shut down Palisades plant and build new reactors on the site as well, although Holtec’s lack of experience in such construction and history of illegality and malfeasance. Holtec would undoubtedly be the major contender for building nuclear reactors in Ottawa County, given its already established political clout. How many are aware of Holtec’s unsavory history and political clout? Nuclear is a likely candidate to accommodate increasing demand from new data centers like the one currently planned by Microsoft.

How many are aware of how Holtec would seek to release radioactive water in Ottawa County and how local (and perhaps even state) authorities would be powerless to stop it, even as it does on the Hudson River and Cape Cod Bay?

How many are aware of the health and environmental risks that come with discharges of radioactive waste water from nuclear plants?

How many are aware of what would happen to their electric bills given the current high cost of building nuclear reactors? And how many are aware of the challenges still associated with SMRs?

The SaveTheCampbell.com effort seeks to make Ottawa County citizens aware and to recommend political policies to address the significant challenges we face.
