The Grand Haven Township Board agenda is shown at https://ght.org/wp-content/uploads/delightful-downloads/2024/10/BoardPacket_101424.pdf .

First up to explain the rationale for Ottawa County leaders saving the Campbell from planned 2025 closure and demolition was Joseph Parnell McCarter. His speech was followed by various questions of the Board directed to him, as well as some comments. Supervisor Mark Reenders noted an additional negative not mentioned by Joseph Parnell McCarter: Consumers Energy will stop dredging Pigeon Lake channel as they have in the past (see https://www.hollandsentinel.com/story/news/environment/2023/05/26/shallow-water-to-reroute-boat-traffic-in-pigeon-lake-channel/70256571007/). One trustee expressed special concern at the 2025 demolition and wondered if at least it could not be delayed even if the closure proceeds, so as not to preclude future options. There were additional questions and comments regarding municipalization concerns, the Palisades nuclear reactor, and practical consequences of Gov. Whitmer’s energy agenda.

Next up to explain Consumers Energy side was Richard Houtteman. He argues it is safe to close and demolish it in 2025. He argues solar and wind are most vigorous in the summer when electric usage is the highest.

We very much appreciated this opportunity to have our side heard.
