Electric demand is growing: https://www.eia.gov/todayinenergy/detail.php?id=65264
Generating capacity is insufficient to meet demand, especially for AI data centers: https://www.zerohedge.com/commodities/no-spare-capacity-watchdog-warns-largest-us-grid-maxed-out-amid-data-center-buildout .
Ottawa County electric cooperatives could buy the Campbell from Consumers Energy (who wants to demolish it, due to their Net Zero agenda), and use a portion of its electric generating capacity for an AI data center, charging it top dollar for its use. The Campbell campus has two things an AI data center needs lots of: electricity and water. That could help subsidize lower rates for Ottawa county residents.
This is why Ottawa County townships are being asked to join an exploratory committee to investigate this possibility. The Jamestown Board has already done so, and hopefully other township boards will join this effort.
