Ottawa County needs to popularize that motto. We should lead the nation in a renaissance of an environmentally responsible use of coal, by keeping Campbell alive and showing how it can be responsibly managed. Its byproducts should be used for the battery industry. Scrubbers and other technology should be used to remove air pollutants. Money from its revenues can continue to be used to dredge Pigeon Lake Channel and avoid other problems upstream.
For all sorts of reasons the USA needs to be the leader in mining and manufacturing for ourselves — and that inevitably requires digging coal and using it in an environmentally responsible way.
